Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) joined the army because of money or repayment of a criminal record. This was announced on April 18 by the Ukrainian prisoner Roman Zayats.

"They are mainly for money - this is one thing, and secondly, this is the removal of a criminal record," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At the same time, he stressed that among prisoners, only those whose remaining term of imprisonment does not exceed five years have the opportunity to join the army.

"For example, he was given 15 years for murder, he has three years left. Yes, he can go. And if it's six or seven years old, it won't work anymore," said the Hare.

On April 16, captured AFU militant Sergei Kosyak spoke about the torture of civilians in the Kursk region. He also shared that in school, instead of the anthem of Ukraine, they were forced to learn the prayer of the national battalion "Azov" (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).

On the same day, a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the command leaves the fighters alone when changing locations. He shared that the staff of the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine) issued him a summons when he was on his way to the market in Poltava.
