In 2024, seven foreigners were convicted in Russia for spreading fakes about the army of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This was announced on Friday, April 18, according to the materials of the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court, which were reviewed by RIA Novosti.

It is specified that among the convicted were four citizens from the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and three foreigners from other states.

In total, 82 people were convicted, according to the agency. 62 of them were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of five to eight years, 11 more people received up to 10 years in a penal colony.

Only two people were given suspended sentences, and eight were fined a total of 7.75 million rubles.

Earlier, on April 7, it was reported that a court in Moscow had arrested in absentia a member of the Pussy Riot group, the former publisher of Mediazona (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) Peter Verzilov (recognized as a foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation) in the case of treason. He is accused of committing crimes under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason") and Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls to carry out terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism committed using mass media").
