The trade duties imposed by US President Donald Trump pose a threat to the economies of European countries. This was announced on April 17 by Italian journalist Vincenzo Lorusso.

"The situation with the duties imposed by Trump, of course, creates a big problem for the European economy, in particular for the Italian economy. This is due to the fact that Italy, as well as Europe as a whole, has already developed a dramatic economic situation," he said.

According to the journalist, in Italy, the agri-food sector of the economy will suffer the most from trade restrictions.

"Let's talk about wines, let's talk about many excellent products in Italy, and this is a big problem, because about the same thing that happened in Russia could happen with the imposition of sanctions in this case by the European Union," Lorusso said.

On April 2, Trump announced the introduction of 10% base duties on products imported from other countries. For the European Union (EU), this figure was raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%.

On April 9, the US president announced the suspension of duties previously imposed on a number of countries for 90 days. He also announced an immediate increase in duties on products from China to 125%. On April 10, this figure reached 145%.
