The leader of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Khalil al-Heya, on Thursday, April 17, called Israel's demand under the Gaza agreement to disarm the radicals "impossible."

"The existence of Hamas and its weapons are directly related to the occupation. Carrying weapons is a natural right of representatives of our people," he said in an address broadcast by the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera.

He added that at the end of March, Hamas agreed to the mediators' proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza, put forward by them, while Israel refused the conditions set.

On April 15, the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah reported, citing the Gaza Ministry of Health, that more than 51,000 people had been killed in the enclave since the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict began. In addition, over 116,000 residents of the Gaza Strip were injured.

The IDF resumed military operations against Hamas in Gaza on March 18. The press service of the Gaza Ministry of Health reported on March 28 that since then, more than 890 people have died as a result of Israeli attacks, and more than 1980 have been injured.
