Two people were killed and five others were injured in a shooting at the University of Florida in the United States. This was reported on April 17 by CNN.
"Our hearts go out to our students and the victims of this terrible tragedy. I have to say that our law enforcement agencies, our FSU police officers, are real heroes in this regard," said Richard McCullough, president of the higher education institution.
It is specified that the shooter who carried out the attack was also hospitalized. The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Eakner. He was the son of a Leon County deputy sheriff.
Earlier it was reported that the university's notification system sent a signal warning of emergency situations after it became known about an armed man who appeared near the campus. Police officers and employees of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrived at the scene.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump was informed about the shooting at a university in Florida. White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the administration was "actively monitoring the situation."
