A US citizen hijacked a passenger plane in Belize

A US citizen, identified as Akiniela Sava Taylor, hijacked a passenger plane in Belize with 14 people on board. This was reported on April 17 by ABC News.
"The police received information that the plane was hijacked by a passenger on board shortly before takeoff. Taylor wanted to be taken out of the country and demanded more fuel for the plane," the TV channel reported, citing police.
After gaining control of the aircraft, the attacker landed at Philip Goldson Airport after some time.
Subsequently, the hijacker was shot dead by one of the passengers, who was carrying a licensed firearm.
"We are grateful — I think we are all grateful — that this did not lead to mass casualties when, according to my calculations, there were more than a dozen people on board the plane," US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said after the incident.
As a result of the incident, three passengers were injured. They are all citizens of Belize.
In July 2024, the Federal Security Service (FSB) stopped an attempt by Ukrainian intelligence with the support of the North Atlantic Alliance countries to hijack a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber to Ukraine. It is noted that "Ukrainian intelligence intended to recruit a Russian military pilot for a monetary reward and the granting of Italian citizenship, to persuade him to fly and land a missile carrier in Ukraine."
