The 47th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) was officially launched in the capital on April 17. This year, its program features more than 200 paintings from 50 countries. The opening film was the military film "Not on the List" with Vladimir Mashkov, who was awarded the honorary Stanislavsky "I Believe" award at the opening ceremony. The screening was preceded by a red carpet, where all the main stars of the Russian film industry and guests from other countries shone. For more information, see the Izvestia report.

The stars of the MIFF Red Carpet

For the press, the evening opening ceremony of the Moscow International Film Festival annually begins with a kind of obstacle race. To take a place on the carpet outside the Rossiya Theater, journalists who have learned from the experience of previous years queue up to enter during the day. The first film crews appeared at 3 p.m. this year, and soon the queue stretched to more than fifty people and continued to grow with new arrivals. Fortunately, the journalists and then the guests of the event (the stars then also stand in line for the photographers), the weather turned out to be favorable. At the opening of the last MIFF, it rained almost non-stop over Pushkin Square, and the stars' outfits were blown away by the strongest wind. The star of the TV series "Olga", Ksenia Surkova, had her umbrella turned inside out on the carpet.

"I was just remembering that!" I'm glad it's not so cold now and I can feel more free. It's great that spring has come to the city," Ksenia Surkova told Izvestia.

Ekaterina Voronina, known to the audience on the TV series "Cicadas", made her debut on the MIFF carpet this year. The film with her participation "Hello to my Husband" participates in the "Russian Premieres" competition. For the exit, the actress chose a white top and a full black skirt.

— It's a bit exciting for me to be on this red carpet for the first time. I was like Cinderella, who had nothing to go to the ball in. And Svetlana Tegin inspired me and dressed me up like a Fairy godmother," the actress shared.

Comedian Evgeny Chebatkov appeared in the image of an ideal husband. The stars had dozens of professional photographers at their disposal on the track, but he still took phone shots for his wife until she was satisfied with them (judging by the smile on her face).

Nastasia Samburskaya's outfits are becoming one of the most striking and discussed at the Moscow Festival from year to year. This time, the actress again attracted attention to herself — she appeared spectacular in a black dress with a chiseled figure with a long train and feathers on a corset behind her back, as if with wings.

— I have a unique image today. There is an amazing Russian designer Lana Marinenko. In general, she specializes in wedding fashion. Last year, I went to the award in her incredibly beautiful dress. RU.TV . We became friends, and now she's made this dress for me, it's exclusive, and I think I'm not afraid to say it's the most beautiful thing you'll see today," Nastasia told Izvestia.

The young actor Vladimir Kanukhin, who became widely known for his role as Vitaly Okorokov in the series "Combination", sent greetings to Philip Kirkorov in his own way.

— I'm wearing a very nice blue suit. I was offered to fix a brooch in the form of a black panther instead of a butterfly — a la reference to Philip Kirkorov. He recently premiered the "Black Panther" music video," the actor said.

Vladimir Kanukhin was also at the grand opening of the Moscow Film Festival for the first time. In an interview with Izvestia, he admitted that he was particularly interested in the opening film in the program — "It wasn't on the list."

— It is very interesting for me to understand, to see how the Great Patriotic War can be filmed in a different way, to find, perhaps, some new meaning. I am a representative of the generation that is moving further away from that great date, which is already 80 years old. Are we missing something every year? Or do we find something on the contrary? I was recently asked what my favorite movie is. I said, "Cranes are flying." The theme is the same. I would like to see what has changed in modern man, how he sees the Great Patriotic War," Kanukhin told Izvestia.

The plot of the historical film is dedicated to the heroic defense of the Brest Fortress in 1941. One of the main roles was played by Vladimir Mashkov.

— The Oleg Tabakov Theater team, which was almost entirely involved in this film, took the filming very seriously. And the young guys were trained according to the regulations of 1938. They knew how to disassemble weapons. But on set, in absolutely plausible proposed circumstances, of course, I had to work hard. I am very happy for our dedicated and talented team. In one way or another, we always talk about this topic in the theater, about love for a person, about love for the Motherland. That's why we thought about creating such a piece, and not only because it's the eve of a great holiday. This is the kind of picture that, in any case, I hope, for young people, will raise the question: "Would I be able to do that?" — Vladimir Mashkov shared with Izvestia.

What films will be shown at the MIFF

This year's program included more than 200 films from 50 countries. The main competition included more than ten paintings from Belgium, Turkey, Korea, Argentina, Germany and other countries. Russia will be represented by three films — a film about St. Petersburg old intellectuals "Two in one life, not counting the dog" from the director of the teenage melodrama "14+" Andrey Zaitsev, "Planet" by Mikhail Arkhipov with Sergey Gilev as a director shooting a picture about space, and "Family Happiness" by Stasi Tolstoy — a story about a young a girl who falls in love with her guardian after losing her parents.

Short film and documentary film contests will also be held as part of the screening. Another section is "Russian Premieres". One of the most anticipated among them is "The Postman". The film takes place in the midst of a war in a small town in the rear. The local postman, played by Alexander Petrov, decides to protect local women who have sent their sons and husbands to the front from bad news. Another participant in the program is Ural director Ivan Sosnin, whose "Alien" participated in the main competition at the last MIFF. Russian Premieres presents his new work and again on the theme of fiction — "Legends of our Ancestors." Alexander Yatsenko is here in the role of a reporter from Yekaterinburg, who, after working in a village lost in the taiga, begins to hear and see an ancient spirit.

— It is very important for us that this screening is not opportunistic, it is important for us that the best film wins, and not a representative of the country that would be convenient as the winner. Cinematographers feel it right away. And perhaps the number of paintings and the geographical diversity that will be presented, among other things, is related to this attitude to cinema in the first place," Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova, who also appeared on the red carpet of the opening, told Izvestia.

She also noted that the MIFF provides an opportunity for participants from different countries not only to acquaint viewers with their works, but also to find business partners.

— I just said hello to a large team from China, who came to the festival precisely in order to find a Russian partner and start creating common film products, common pictures that can please a wide variety of viewers in different countries. We are glad that this is a tradition. And we must understand that generations of our cinematographers, the best of them, grew up on this path. And it causes a special thrill. Every time you walk along it, you think about how important it is that this tradition continues. Pride! And we see this legendary queue, when everyone is fighting to show that you also managed to get to the opening of the Moscow International Film Festival this year — this is very important," the minister said.

The MIFF Opening Ceremony

Traditions are honored at the Moscow Festival. One of the main ones is the transfer of a chain with the image of St. George as a symbol of power to the chairman of the jury of the main competition. This year, Nikita Mikhalkov, the president of the film festival, put it around the neck of Luis Mignarro, the Spanish director and founder of the Eddie Saeta production company.

"It's an expensive item. It's gold," Mikhalkov jokingly warned and made his colleague and the audience laugh.

The second tradition is the presentation of the honorary award "I Believe", named after Konstantin Stanislavsky. Over the years, Russian and foreign film stars have become its laureates, including Oleg Yankovsky, Evgeny Mironov, Catherine Deneuve, Meryl Streep. Vladimir Mashkov received the award at the 47th ceremony.

—Volodya, you gave me the Golden Mask for nothing a few days ago, and now I'm going to give you the Silver George for nothing," Nikita Mikhalkov joked again.

— Stanislavsky said that only the art of big truth, big feelings and big ideas can reflect our reality. Thank you for your faith in me! Thank you for believing in the work we are doing. And I'm also sure that in this room today we all believe in our victory and we believe in our guys," Vladimir Mashkov said from the stage.

The large-scale film screening will last a week. The festival will end on April 24 with the premiere of the lyrical Argentine film "Who would We Like to Be" directed by Alejandro Agresti.
