American leader Donald Trump announced on April 17 that he expects to receive a response from Russia this week on a possible truce in Ukraine.

In addition, the US president did not rule out the possibility of introducing economic measures if the Russian Federation does not respond to his initiative.

"Let's see what happens. We will receive information from them this week. Very soon. And we'll see," Trump told reporters at the White House.

Stephen Witkoff, the US president's special Envoy for the Middle East, said on April 15 that the United States was moving forward to conclude a deal with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He also noted that there is an opportunity to rebuild relations with the Russian Federation through a commercial partnership.

Before that, on March 30, Trump announced that he would impose secondary duties on Russian oil exports in the absence of an agreement with the Russian Federation to end the Ukrainian conflict.
