Russian Gusalova took silver at the European Weightlifting Championships

On April 17, Russian Zarina Gusalova won silver at the European Weightlifting Championships in Chisinau in the weight category up to 71 kg.
According to the sum of two exercises, the 20-year-old athlete gained 241 kg. She scored the best result in the snatch (110 kg) and the third in the clean and jerk (131 kg).
Iceland's Eiglow Fanndal Sturludouttir won the championship with 244 kg (109+135). The third result was shown by Belarusian Suzanna Volodko — 236 kg (102+134), Sport-Express reports.
The championship will last until April 21. Russian athletes compete under a neutral flag.
In December last year, two-time world weightlifting champion Ruslan Albegov, answering a question about the possible return of Russian athletes to the international arena, said that foreign weightlifters do not have enough Russians in competitions. He also wished that "everything would return to normal."
In May 2023, the International Weightlifting Federation allowed Russian athletes to compete in a neutral status. According to IWF representatives, this decision represents a compromise between showing solidarity with Ukraine and rejecting discrimination against athletes based on nationality.
