During the period from 00:00 on May 8 to 23:59 on May 10, pilots and controllers of aircraft flying to St. Petersburg and Volgograd will use the former names of these hero cities - Leningrad and Stalingrad — in radio exchanges. This was announced on April 17 in the official Telegram channel of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

"Temporarily returning historical names to the airwaves of our hero cities is the little that we can do in memory of the feat, courage and perseverance of the defenders and residents of these cities. We suggest that aircraft commanders inform passengers about the specifics of holiday flights so that everyone arriving or departing from St. Petersburg and Volgograd can once again experience the atmosphere of the Great Victory," the agency quotes Dmitry Yadrov, head of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

According to the agency, the decision to use the former names of the hero cities was made at the request of veterans of the aviation industry.

Earlier, Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova spoke about the preparations in Russia for 190 major events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War. In addition, the total number of cultural events dedicated to this topic will exceed 100,000. The head of the department also clarified that all 89 regions of the country are preparing to celebrate the Victory anniversary.
