During the working trip of Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, Russia and China discussed the expansion of Russian energy supplies to the People's Republic of China (PRC), as well as the possibility of creating joint LNG projects. This was announced on April 17 by the press service of the Russian Ministry.

Tsivilev held a meeting in China with the head of the country's State Energy Administration, Wang Hongzhi, whose main topic was cooperation in the energy sector.

"Despite external challenges, we continue to strengthen Russian-Chinese ties in the energy sector. Russian energy resources account for most of the total trade turnover between our countries," the words of the head of the Ministry of Energy are quoted in the Telegram channel of the department.

The participants in the negotiations noted the results achieved in the supply of Russian natural gas to China. The parties also discussed cooperation in the coal sector, emphasizing the creation of favorable conditions for coal exports to China. A separate topic of conversation was new approaches to achieving technological sovereignty that can be developed with Chinese colleagues.

On April 15, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said on the sidelines of the Eurasian Oil and Gas Forum that China intends to negotiate with Russia on gas supplies via the Power of Siberia –2 gas pipeline or increase purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2025. In particular, China intends to negotiate a transit route through Mongolia or to increase LNG supplies.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on February 14 that China buys gas from Russia in order to meet the needs of the Chinese people. He stressed that no other country would be able to supply enough gas.

On January 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping that Russia ranks first in natural gas and oil supplies to China, and China is the largest consumer of Russian energy resources.
