Nervous battle: Petrov vs. the sea monster, Crispin as a magician

One of the most long—awaited films of this year, "Kraken" starring Alexander Petrov, was released on wide screens on April 17. In the story, a missile submarine with a secret weapon on board disappears into the Greenland Sea. A submarine is sent in search of him, led by Viktor Voronin, played by Petrov. He is more interested than anyone in the positive outcome of the event: the ship was commanded by his older brother, played by Viktor Dobronravov. The task of the sailors is complicated by the appearance of a giant monster Kraken, which awakens due to geological research at the polar station.

— When I studied something about employees in the submarine fleet, I "tried on" their lifestyle for myself, it amazed me and still amazes me. These are people with a completely different outlook on life, who are able to make important decisions instantly. This is something incredible! "Kraken" is a painting about forgiveness, kindness, an act, about a person's struggle with the elements and about what a person understands for himself in this struggle," Alexander Petrov told reporters.

The director of "Kraken" was Nikolai Lebedev. "Legend No. 17", "The Crew", "Nuremberg" — these are all his works, but he has not done fantasy yet. This project has been in development since 2021. It was filmed in the Murmansk region, Tula and Moscow. In addition to Alexander Petrov and Viktor Dobronravov, Alexey Guskov, Sergey Garmash, Diana Pozharskaya and Anton Bogdanov can be seen in the fantasy blockbuster.

"How to re-educate a dragon", 12+

Directed by Wang Jun. Starring: Qi Keijian, Liang Xiaoqiang, Lin Zhenghe, Zhu Yi, Li Haojia.

The youngest viewers will also have something to watch this weekend — the cartoon "How to re-educate a Dragon". In the center of the plot is a Dragon and a nimble seahorse. They are searching for powerful artifacts hidden from view by the Heavenly Prince. The main characters are hindered by the cunning God of Thunder and the narcissistic warrior Erlan. In the course of the action, the Dragon finds a Magical Lotus and wants to take it to his mysterious master. The owner turns out to be the Prince of Darkness himself. The secret is soon revealed, and the hero is faced with a difficult choice: protect his new friends or continue to help the evil overlord.

The world premiere of the Chinese animated film "How to re-educate a Dragon" took place last summer. It was released on Russian screens on Thursday, April 17th. The film was directed by Wang Jun. He also owns "The Story of the Rose" and "The Legend of Zhui."

"Mr. K", 18+

Tallulah Hazekapm Schwab is from the Netherlands. She was inspired by the works of Franz Kafka and directed "Mr. K." The drama conveys the phantasmagorical atmosphere of the Czech writer's novels and forces you to immerse yourself in the enclosed space of the hotel, where the main action unfolds.

Mr. K. is a magician. He demonstrates his skills on small venues, but dreams of becoming a great illusionist. One day, the main character stays overnight at a hotel, from which he cannot find a way out the next morning. Asking for help from other guests turns out to be pointless. The hotel staff can't do anything about it either. The situation escalates when the walls of the building begin to collapse.

"Mr. K shows how we strive to streamline reality and surround ourselves with like—minded people in order to create the illusion of a clear world," Tallulah Hazekamp Schwab is quoted as saying by foreign media.

Crispin Glover played the main role in the Dutch surrealist drama. The 60-year-old actor has dozens of projects on his account. The role of George McFly in Robert Zemeckis' legendary film "Back to the Future" made him a world-class star.

"Collector of souls", 18+

Directed by Sam Qua. Starring: Janine Chan, Wang Chuanjun, Francis Ng, Wang Shandy, Liu Xiaohai.

You won't get bored while watching another detective story, Soul Collector. It was taken by Sam Qua. In the story, girls go missing in a Malaysian school. One of them, the daughter of the director of the educational institution, is soon found dead. The killer leaves clues, but they are not enough, so the search comes to a dead end.

"The Collector of Souls" has been in theaters since April 17th. The main role in the Chinese thriller about bullying and revenge was played by Janine Chan. By the way, she was recognized as the winner in the Best Actress category at the Asia-Pacific Festival this year. In total, the film won eight awards at various festivals in Asia.

"Flight through", 18+

Directed by James Madigan. Starring: Josh Hartnett, Kathy Sackhoff, Julian Kostov, Charithra Chandran, Marco Saror.

Another novelty of this week is the "Through Flight". The main character of the action movie is a former intelligence operative named Lucas. After his retirement, he spends his life in Bangkok abusing alcohol. Suddenly, Lucas gets a call from his ex-boss and offers to complete a mission on board the plane to track down and neutralize a hacker nicknamed Ghost. The former special agent agrees to the adventure. At the same time, no one knows what a Ghost looks like. The task is complicated by the fact that other killers are hunting for him on board. The thugs were promised an impressive sum for their capture.

Lucas is played by John Hartnett in "The Ultimate Flight." The actor managed to prove himself in last year's "Trap" by M. Night Shyamalan. And Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" won seven Oscars with his participation in 2023.
