A protest was expressed to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow due to the fact that shooting practice is planned to be held in Hokkaido near the borders of Russia. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 17.

"The Russian side regards such provocative military activity near Russia's Far Eastern borders as a potential threat to national security and considers it categorically unacceptable. Such actions by Tokyo lead to an increase in the degree of tension in Northeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
