Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi on Friday, April 18, during which the sides will share views on the situation in Syria, Transcaucasia and the Caspian Sea. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 17.

The new meeting will continue the regular dialogue between the foreign ministers of the two countries. The last time they met was on February 25, when Lavrov was on a working visit to Tehran.

"During the upcoming conversation, a wide range of topical regional and international issues will be discussed, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the Iranian nuclear program, the situation in Syria, Transcaucasia and the Caspian Sea," the ministry's press service said.

Moscow will continue to expand mutually beneficial ties with the Islamic Republic for stability in the region and international security in general, the Foreign Ministry stressed.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on April 17 that Lavrov would hold talks with Araqchi, who would pay a working visit to Moscow on April 17-18. During the meeting, the ministers will discuss current international and regional issues, including the Iranian nuclear program and the situation in Syria, as well as strengthening coordination in the United Nations and other international platforms, the diplomat said.

On February 25, Lavrov met with Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian during his visit to Tehran. Prior to that, the Russian minister held talks with Araqchi, during which he discussed the situation in Syria, prospects for a settlement within the framework of the Iranian nuclear program and other events on the agenda.
