The Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the protest of the lawyers of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, retaining for her a measure of restraint in the form of a 30-day house arrest. This was reported on April 17 by the Moldovan TV channel Canal 5.

"Yevgenia Hutsul remains under house arrest. The prosecutors' motion [to tighten the preventive measure] has been rejected," the broadcaster's Telegram channel says.

After the meeting, Hutsul's lawyer Natalia Bayran stressed that Hutsul's defense considers the detention and arrest of the politician illegal and intends to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

A day earlier, a rally was held in the capital of Gagauzia, Comrat, in support of the head of the autonomy. As a result of the action, a resolution was adopted, which includes, among other things, a guarantee of Chisinau's non-interference in Gagauz institutions of power, as well as the release of the politician.

On March 25, Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport. Her name was found on the list of persons who are prohibited from leaving the country. Later, on March 28, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest.
