The Lithuanian Seimas has adopted a bill on the cancellation of the residence permit (residence permit) of Russian citizens for trips to Russia and Belarus. This was reported by the BNS news agency on April 17.

The Lithuanian Seimas extended for another year the restrictions on the issuance of Schengen visas and residence permits for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus, that is, until May 2, 2026. It is specified that 115 deputies supported the bill, but one voting abstained.

"The law is supplemented by a provision stating that a temporary residence permit issued to a Russian citizen in Lithuania will be revoked if it is established that he or she has traveled to Russia or Belarus more than once in the last 3 calendar months," the publication says.

Despite this, the restrictions do not apply to persons who visited Russia and Belarus for reasons beyond the control of citizens, as well as to employees of organizations that were engaged in cargo and passenger transportation to and from the European Union (EU) countries, including transit through Lithuania.

Earlier on April 8, the ELTA news agency reported that Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Palutskas opposed tougher sanctions against citizens of Russia and Belarus. According to him, it's not normal to treat every visitor as a "spy."
