The Moscow garrison military court has confiscated the property of the former head of the main communications Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, who was sentenced to seven years in a high-security penal colony. This was reported on April 17 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

It is noted that the general's property was confiscated in the amount of about 36 million rubles. In addition, the convict was banned from holding certain positions for seven years.

According to his lawyer Vladimir Shelupakhin, Shamarin's defense will not appeal the verdict. According to the lawyer, this is the principal's position.

Shamarin was detained on May 22, 2024. According to the investigation, in the period from April 2016 to October 2023, he received a bribe from the general director and chief accountant of JSC Perm Telephone Plant Telta. The Investigative Committee of Russia pointed out that the military had disposed of the money "at its discretion." Subsequently, the general was dismissed from the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff and head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In July, at a court hearing, it was announced that Shamarin had pleaded guilty and entered into a pre-trial agreement. Nevertheless, despite the defense's position, the general's measure of restraint was not softened and he was kept under arrest.
