The Emir of Qatar thanked the Russian Federation for its help in hosting the World Cup

Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 17, thanked Russia for its help in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

"My Russian friends and I have worked well together in the preparation of the FIFA World Cup. <...> You have supported us throughout the preparatory period. We have been in contact with you all the time," said the Emir of Qatar.

He noted that thanks to this, it turned out to be an excellent championship. Qatar greatly appreciates the level of bilateral relations with Russia, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani added.

Earlier in the day, the Emir of Qatar arrived in Russia on an official visit. The day before, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a wide range of issues would be discussed during his visit to Russia. He also stressed that the Emir of Qatar and the Russian leader would definitely exchange views on the conflict in Ukraine.
