- Trump was informed about the conversation between Putin and Witkoff, the Kremlin said.

US President Donald Trump was given the full contents of the conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and special envoy of the American leader Stephen Witkoff, which took place in St. Petersburg. This was announced on April 17 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"Our president had a very lengthy conversation with Mr. Witkoff recently, and we know that the contents of this conversation were reported to President Trump," the Russian leader's spokesman said at a briefing.
He added that the United States continues to work towards a peaceful settlement with the Europeans and Ukrainians, and Russia would like to see their intention to move in this direction.
"Then, of course, we would expect the Europeans and Ukrainians to show their commitment to finding a peaceful settlement," Peskov said.
On April 5, Peskov noted that the peace agreement on Ukraine, which was discussed at the meeting between Putin and Witkoff, does not yet have clear outlines, but Moscow will definitely move in this direction.
On the same day, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said he would not comment on the progress of the peace process in Ukraine. He noted that he supports the US president's desire for a peaceful settlement, but negotiations on a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine are not going easily.
Witkoff's third meeting with Putin took place in St. Petersburg on April 11. It was clarified that the topic of the negotiations was aspects of the Ukrainian settlement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, called the meeting between Putin and Witkoff a good opportunity to convey the Russian side's point of view to Trump before the talks began.
