The Russian Foreign Ministry delegation will take part in the BRICS summit at the end of April.

The Russian delegation will take part in the meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers on April 28-29 in Rio de Janeiro, Alexander Shchetinin, director of the Latin American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Izvestia.

"The BRICS Ministerial Council will be held at the end of April, and Russia, as a member, will participate in this event. Russia will certainly participate in the BRICS summit," Shchetinin said.

On January 1, Brazil assumed the chairmanship of the BRICS group. The final event with the participation of the leaders of the 20 countries that are full members or partners of the association is scheduled for July 6-7 and will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

On January 6, the Government of Brazil, which will serve as the BRICS chairman in 2025, officially announced Indonesia's accession to the association. The republic's membership was approved in accordance with the BRICS enlargement guidelines, criteria, and procedures.

BRICS is an interstate association of countries. On the eve of the summit in Kazan, which took place from October 22 to 24, 2024, 35 applications were received to join the work of the association. Since January 1, 2025, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan have joined it as partners.
