The defense of the former head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, will not appeal the verdict. Lawyer Vladimir Shelupakhin told Izvestia about this on April 17.

"The principal's position is fundamental," he explained.

Earlier that day, the Moscow garrison military Court sentenced Shamarin to seven years in a high-security penal colony in a case of receiving a large bribe. He was banned from holding certain positions for seven years. The court also confiscated the general's property in the amount of about 36 million rubles.

On April 16, the lawyer confirmed that his client had pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from the management of the Perm telephone plant Telta in the amount of 36 million rubles. The state prosecution requested 12 years in a high-security penal colony for Shamarin.

The general was detained on May 22, 2024. According to the investigation, in the period from April 2016 to October 2023, he received a bribe from the general director and chief accountant of JSC Perm Telephone Plant Telta. Subsequently, the general was dismissed from the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff and head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In August, he partially admitted his guilt, although the defense insisted that the amount received was not a bribe. At the same time, in July, at a court hearing, it was announced that Shamarin had pleaded guilty and entered into a pre-trial agreement. Nevertheless, despite the defense's position, the general's measure of restraint was not softened and he was kept under arrest.
