Within the framework of the Union State (SG), it is possible to build a closer unified system of interaction than in a unitary state. This was announced by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on April 17.

"I often say: we (Russia and Belarus. They are smart enough people to build a unified system of interaction, to build our relations even closer than in a unitary state," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.

The Head of State stressed that otherwise "we will not be and will not exist." According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin is also aiming for Moscow and Minsk to maintain the closest relations.

On April 2, Putin, in congratulating Lukashenko on the Day of the Unity of the Peoples of the two countries, announced the intention of the Russian Federation to build mutually beneficial allied ties with Belarus in the interests of security and stability. According to him, relations between the states are based on centuries-old traditions of fraternal friendship, as well as on spiritual and cultural closeness.
