Two men were detained in the Irkutsk region for the murder of 23 years ago, and the diary of the deceased girl helped to track down the criminals. This was announced on April 17 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

"According to the investigation, in October 2001, two malefactors committed illegal acts against their friend. To hide the traces of the crime, they killed the girl, and hid the body under the floor of an abandoned building," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Volk noted that in 2024, the criminal investigation department identified a key witness from the victim's entourage who kept her personal diary. The recordings allowed us to identify the suspects, they were detained under Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

It is clarified that a verdict has already been passed against one of the defendants — the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison in a high-security penal colony.

Earlier, on April 9, investigators in the Irkutsk region charged the "Angarsk maniac" Mikhail Popkov with murder committed almost 14 years ago. In May 2011, a man hit the victim several times with an axe. After the Assholes, he poured a flammable liquid over her body and set it on fire.
