"We strongly recommend that drivers be especially collected and careful when driving through courtyards and maneuvering on them. In such places, there is a high probability of unexpected appearance of underage pedestrians or cyclists due to parked vehicles blocking the view of a maneuvering motorist. In turn, parents need to constantly monitor the behavior of their young children, not leaving them unattended, even next to themselves," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.
He also reminded parents of the need to monitor children's use of retroreflective elements, including on outerwear. They make young pedestrians and cyclists visible to drivers of vehicles on the road, Belan stressed.
