- Kovalchuk stated that the Russian Federation has technologies for the development of commercial space launches

Russia has all the necessary technological resources for the successful development of commercial space launches. This was announced on April 17 by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute Research Center.
According to him, despite the fact that currently the Russian Federation is not actually engaged in commercial launches, with the arrival of the new head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, these tasks will surely be successfully solved.
"With the arrival of the new head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, I think these tasks will be successfully solved. A large number of private companies have already appeared. We need to explore space commercially," Kovalchuk said on the air of the Solovyov Live TV channel.
He also stressed that Russia does not depend on foreign technologies. At the moment, the country faces two main challenges: reducing the cost of launches and developing a reusable spacecraft. These areas need to be addressed in the near future, Kovalchuk said.
"In short, we have everything we need to move forward successfully. <...> We fully possess the necessary technologies, knowledge and, most importantly, experience in order to maintain our leadership in the space race," Kovalchuk emphasized.
On April 16, Kovalchuk told Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Russian leader's visit to the Bauman Moscow State Technical University about the technologies needed to conquer deep space. According to him, Russia surpasses the United States in the technology of creating nuclear reactors powered by hydrogen. He clarified that this is enough to create an interplanetary tugboat. In addition, the President of the National Research Center proposed a new "atomic space project 2.0" with an emphasis on the independence of the Russian Federation in near-Earth space.
