A resident of Transbaikalia is awaiting trial for gold smuggling

A resident of Transbaikalia and a citizen of one of the East Asian countries will be convicted of smuggling precious metals across the border. They tried to take out gold, the value of which is estimated at 50 million rubles.

It was established that both men were part of a criminal group that had been illegally transporting gold from Russia to the East for two years, writes ChitaMedia news agency with reference to the press service of the Trans-Baikal Linear Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Transport.

Couriers received precious metals from third parties and delivered them by car from the Amur region to Transbaikalia. They were supposed to transport the goods to their destination and transfer them to other participants in the criminal scheme for transportation across the customs border, but they were detained in August 2022. About 14 kg of gold was found in the salons of the suspects' foreign cars.

The materials of the criminal case have been sent to the court.

Earlier, on April 14, it was reported that customs officers at Sheremetyevo airport had stopped the smuggling of gold chains worth 8.6 million rubles. They tried to export the product to Turkey. According to the expert examination, the chain is 99.5% gold. The product is also not a finished piece of jewelry.
