FSB officers stopped an attempt to smuggle radio-electronic scrap containing precious metals from Russia in the amount of at least 9.9 million rubles. This was announced on April 17 by the press service of the department.

"In March 2025, a citizen of the Russian Federation with a residence permit in Lithuania was detained in the Smolensk region while attempting to smuggle precious metals out of the country in the form of scrap and waste," the report said.

The border department of the FSB in the Smolensk region has opened a criminal case on this fact under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted smuggling of strategically important goods and resources).

The agency is currently conducting investigative actions to consolidate the evidence base and identify possible accomplices in smuggling.

Earlier, on April 14, customs officers at Sheremetyevo airport stopped the illegal export of a gold chain worth 8.6 million rubles. The item was found in the bag of a foreigner, who claimed that the jewel belonged to him. A criminal case was opened against the suspect for the smuggling of strategically important goods.
