Ex-president of Kyrgyzstan found guilty of releasing a criminal boss

The Pervomaisky district Court of Kyrgyzstan found former President Almazbek Atambayev guilty in absentia of releasing criminal boss Aziz Batukayev from custody. This was announced on April 17 by the lawyer of the former head of state Sergey Slesarev.
He clarified that the verdict had already been passed.
"Atambayev was found guilty without punishment due to the statute of limitations (of the case. — Ed.)," the lawyer told TASS.
In June 2020, a Bishkek court sentenced former Kyrgyz President Atambayev to 11 years and two months in prison with confiscation of property in a case of organizing corruption in the interests of an organized criminal group. However, he was released in February 2023.
