The State Duma recalled the increase in payments to certain categories of pensioners from May 1.

On April 17, Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, recalled the upcoming increase in payments for certain categories of pensioners from May 1.

She clarified that the increase will affect those citizens who received disability group I in April or celebrated their 80th anniversary.

"For these categories, starting May 1 at <...> the fixed part of the payout will be increased. Now it is 8,907.70 rubles, and after that it will double," the parliamentarian told the Prime agency.

At the same time, the MP stressed that the increase will take place proactively — pensioners will not have to submit any applications.

Double increase: starting from 2026, the pension indexation system will change

The increase to the insurance pension from 2026 will be calculated in February and April.

On the same day, Nina Gukasova, program director of the RANEPA Federal Methodological Center for Improving Literacy, announced that Russians who do not have contributions to the Social Fund of Russia may be left without an insurance pension. According to her, the employer pays insurance premiums from the official income of the employee, which are taken into account when calculating the pension. If a person does not have an income from which deductions are made, he risks being left without payments.
