It's Good Friday before Easter: funeral cards, pictures with inscriptions

Holy Friday is the strictest day of Holy Week, which precedes Easter. It is dedicated to the most tragic events of the earthly life of Jesus Christ.: his arrest, crucifixion, and burial. The divine services of this day combine sorrow for the lost Savior and bright hope for the miracle of Resurrection. Izvestia has prepared funeral pictures and postcards for this celebration.
Happy Good Friday, 2025: funeral cards with Jesus Christ
According to the Gospel, after the Last Supper, one of the apostles, Judas Iscariot, led the Jerusalem guards to the place where the Son of God was praying. Jesus was arrested, and the disciple who betrayed him received a modest reward of 30 pieces of silver. At that time, it was possible to buy a slave with this money.
The Jewish high priests, on whose lies the Savior was captured, had long been plotting to kill him. However, they could not send Christ to his death without a decree from the Roman procurator of Judea, Pontius Pilate. But neither the procurator nor the Emperor Herod Antipas saw anything criminal in Jesus' actions. Nevertheless, the high priests continued to insist on the execution of a man who allegedly violated their faith and called himself the King of the Jews.
Pilate wanted to free the Son of God and even found a reason for this — in honor of the celebration of Passover, the procurator traditionally pardoned one of the criminals sentenced to death. He offered the people a choice: to release the famous murderer and thief Barabbas or Christ. But the people, incited by the high priests, chose Barabbas. Pilate's wife asked him not to destroy Jesus, but in the current situation, the Roman governor could only impose a death sentence.
At about three o'clock in the afternoon, the Savior was crucified on Golgotha along with two robbers. According to legend, one of them repented of his crimes at the last moment and recognized Christ as the Son of God. For this, the Savior promised the criminal that he would be the first to enter the Kingdom of heaven.
After the death of Christ, the sun went out in the sky, a strong earthquake began, and the stones under his cross split. One of the soldiers, wanting to make sure that Jesus was dead, pierced his ribs with a spear, and blood and water poured out of the wound — a sign that the Savior was a man and at the same time remained above all people.
The body of Christ was taken away and buried with honors by his secret follower Joseph. And on the third day, the Son of God rose from the dead, proclaiming victory over death.
For Orthodox believers, Good Friday is the strictest day of Great Lent. Before the end of Vespers, those who speak completely refuse to eat, and after that they eat only bread. Also on this day, they refrain from household chores, entertainment, participation in social events and feasts. At the evening service, a shroud is brought from the altar to the center of the temple — an image of the Savior in a hump on a cloth. She will remain there until Easter as a symbol of mourning for the Son of God.
