The railway route between Primorsky Krai and the DPRK will start operating on May 8. This was announced on April 17 by the press service of the regional government.

"The route will allow you to visit the graves of Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Korea from the Japanese invaders," the Telegram channel of the regional government says.

It is specified that the new route appeared on the initiative of the governor of the region Oleg Kozhemyako, as well as with the support of Russian Railways, border guards, customs officers and representatives of the tourism industry.

Earlier, on March 27, it was reported that Russia and the DPRK would soon officially announce the start of construction of a road bridge over the Tumannaya River, and the parties are currently carrying out final preparatory work. Construction crews and columns of necessary equipment are being formed on both sides.

The agreement on the construction of a border road bridge across the Tumannaya River was signed by the government of the Russian Federation and the DPRK during the visit of the Russian delegation on June 19, 2024. Roman Starovoit, the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia that the document was signed as part of the agreements between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong—un, reached during the visit of the North Korean leader to Russia in September 2023.
