South Korean and US Air Forces launch joint Freedom Flag exercises


The Air Forces of South Korea and the United States have launched joint military exercises Freedom Flag, which will involve about 90 aircraft. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency on Thursday, April 17.
The exercises are being conducted in order to strengthen the operational compatibility of departments and joint readiness to counter North Korean threats, the agency said.
The Freedom Flag will last until May 2, and more than 1,000 troops and about 90 aircraft have been mobilized from both sides. Among the forces and assets mobilized for the two-week exercises were F-35A, F-15K and KF-16 fighters from the South, as well as American F-16 and F-35 B fighters and MQ-1 and MQ-9 drones.
On January 15, Yonhap news agency reported that the United States, South Korea and Japan were conducting joint air exercises near the Korean Peninsula in response to Pyongyang's launch of short-range ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan. It was clarified that at least one American B-1B Lancer strategic bomber, South Korean F-15K fighters and Japanese Mitsubishi F-2 fighters took part in the exercises.
