Tetanus can be found in the soil of vegetable gardens, orchards, and pastures if fertilizers from human or animal feces are used there. This was announced on Thursday, April 17, by Mikhail Lebedev, a leading expert, head of the scientific and information support group for medical institutions at the CMD Center for Molecular Diagnostics of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

"The bacterium enters the human body through a wound, even a small scratch or cut caused by an object that has had contact with the soil. Rusty metal objects are particularly dangerous," he said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

The most vulnerable to infection are stab wounds and extensive skin damage, the doctor added. It is in such cases that it is easier to create oxygen-free conditions necessary for the development of the pathogen.

Earlier, on July 23, 2024, Andrey Pozdnyakov, Ph.D., infectious disease specialist, chief physician of the INVITRO-Siberia Clinical and diagnostic laboratory, told Izvestia about the danger of infection with subcutaneous larvae while swimming in ponds with standing water.
