The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are trying to access the database of the Medicare health insurance program to combat illegal immigrants. This was reported on April 17 by The Washington Post (WP).

"Current and former health officials have stated that they are deeply concerned about what appears to be an unprecedented use of the Medicare database as part of efforts to enforce immigration laws, and they are unsure whether this is legal," the publication emphasizes.

In addition to health information and other confidential information, the Medicare database also contains residential addresses that may be of interest to the immigration department.

Since coming to power on January 20, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly advocated stricter immigration policy. He stated that he intended to ensure the largest operation in American history to deport illegal migrants.

On March 16, the District of Columbia Court ordered a halt to the mass deportations of migrants from the United States, carried out on the basis of the "Alien Enemies Act" of 1798.
