Jay Clayton appointed Interim Prosecutor for the Southern District of New York

Jay Clayton will serve as Interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. This was announced on April 16 by US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social network.
"I am pleased to announce that Jay Clayton will serve as interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. During my first term, Jay served with great distinction as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and earned universal respect," he wrote.
It is clarified that Trump announced his intention to nominate Clayton to the Southern District of New York on November 14, 2024. After that, his candidacy received "bipartisan support."
"The Southern District needs strong leadership now, and I thank Jay for assuming this role while we continue to seek his confirmation in the Senate," concluded the American leader.
On March 23, it became known that the former prosecutor of the State of Virginia, Jessica Aber, died at the age of 43. The woman was nominated for the position on the initiative of the 46th President of the United States Joe Biden in 2021. Two months before her death, Aber resigned her prosecutorial powers "to enable President Donald Trump to choose her successor."
