US President Donald Trump held a meeting with the Japanese delegation on trade issues. The head of state announced this on Wednesday, April 16.
"It is a great honor for me to just meet with the Japanese delegation on trade issues," he wrote on the Truth Social network.
In addition, the American leader called the meeting "great progress."
Earlier, on April 14, it was reported that negotiations between the United States and Japan on Trump's imposition of import duties would take place in Washington on April 17. It was clarified that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent would take part in the meeting from the American side, and the country's Minister for Economic Recovery, Ryosei Akazawa, would arrive from the Japanese side.
On April 10, Trump postponed the introduction of duties for 90 days for 75 countries due to the panic of citizens. Bessent, in turn, clarified that almost 70 countries had contacted the presidential administration with a request for negotiations. According to him, he and U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer are currently negotiating with representatives from Japan.
