The Ukrainian authorities are trying to use the visits of Western leaders to Kiev as support for the morale of their own army, which is already in a state of partial demoralization. This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy, member of the Defense Committee Andrei Kolesnik.

Such events of the Kiev authorities are aimed at demonstrating the presence of allies in Ukraine and as moral support for the Ukrainian military. According to him, after Trump's statement that he would not go to Ukraine, the authorities are trying to show the soldiers that they are not alone.

"But the Ukrainian army is already demoralized. Basically, either fanatics or those who are morally broken are going to the front," Kolesnik said in a conversation with aif.ru on Wednesday, April 16.

At the same time, against the background of the offensive of Russian troops, including in the Dnepropetrovsk area, such attempts will not change the general mood. Kolesnik believes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be in an even more severe psychological state by May 9, and the actions of the Ukrainian regime will not give a real result.

Earlier on April 16, the Verkhovna Rada voted to extend the mobilization and martial law in Ukraine until August 6. Martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine have been in effect since February 24, 2022. If the deputies had voted against the extension, their term would have expired on May 9. 360.ru .

During such a regime, all men between the ages of 18 and 60 are prohibited from leaving the country, public holidays become working days, and the powers of the president and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada are automatically extended during martial law.

On April 15, the Politico newspaper, citing Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, reported on Kiev's invitation to the EU heads of state on May 9. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called it a theater of the absurd.
