The authorities of the Kursk region reported contacts with law enforcement officers in the Smirnov case.

The authorities of the Kursk region are in contact with law enforcement agencies regarding the criminal case of the former governor of the region Alexei Smirnov. This was announced on April 16 by the acting head of the region, Alexander Khinshtein.

"The government of the Kursk Region is most actively committed to cooperating with law enforcement, investigative, and supervisory authorities, and we will continue to do so. We don't intend to hide anything," he said in an interview with reporters, a recording of which was published on his Telegram channel.

He expressed confidence that the investigation and the court would objectively examine the circumstances of the case and establish the truth.

Alexey Smirnov faces up to ten years in prison.

Smirnov was arrested earlier in the day. It is specified that the testimony against the ex-governor was given by the former CEO of the Kursk Region Development Corporation, Vladimir Lukin, who has already been arrested in the case of embezzlement during the construction of fortifications. On the same day, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow arrested the former head of the Kursk region for two months.

According to Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, law enforcement officers charged Smirnov and his deputy Alexei Dedov with embezzlement of more than 1 billion rubles.
