Residents of the Gagauz Autonomous Region of Moldova at a rally in Comrat expressed support for its head, Evgenia Gutsul, and demanded the restoration of all powers. This was announced on April 16 by the Moldovan TV channel Canal 5 in its Telegram channel.

"We, the residents of the autonomous territorial entity of Gagauzia, <...> declare our resolute protest against the anti-Gagauz policy of the central authorities of Moldova. <...> In connection with the current situation, we demand from the central authorities of Moldova the immediate restoration of all rights and powers of ATU Gagauzia," the message says.

According to the Telegram channel of the GRT television and radio company, a resolution was adopted at the rally, which includes, among other things, a guarantee of Chisinau's non-interference in the institutions of power in Gagauzia, as well as the release from house arrest of Evgenia Gutsul and the cessation of political persecution of the autonomy's leadership.

Earlier, on April 15, the National Assembly (Parliament) Gagauzia of Moldova was informed about the external management of the autonomy from Chisinau. In addition, the parliament accused the Constitutional Court of Moldova of losing its legitimacy.

On March 25, Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport. Her name was found on the list of persons who are prohibited from leaving the country. Later, on March 28, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days.

On April 9, the court ordered the transfer of Hutsuls to house arrest.
