Alexey Smirnov, the former governor of the Kursk Region, was arrested for two months on charges of especially large-scale fraud. This was announced on April 16 by the press service of the Moscow courts of general jurisdiction.

It is clarified that Smirnov is charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). He will be in custody until June 16.

"The court refused to satisfy the petition of A.B. Smirnov and his defense lawyer for the election of another milder preventive measure against A.B. Smirnov, unrelated to detention," the press service's Telegram channel said.
