Sales of used cars in Russia increased by 13% in a month
In March 2025, Russians purchased 448.3 thousand used passenger cars. This is 12.9% more than a month earlier, but 10.7% less than the result of March last year. This is stated in the message of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on April 17.
Lada was the leader among the brands in March, with 121.3 thousand such used cars purchased in the first month of spring. The second place went to Toyota, whose figure was 43.6 thousand units. This is followed by Kia and Hyundai (23.8 thousand and 23.3 thousand units, respectively), and Nissan closes the top five (19.3 thousand units). This was followed by Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Renault, Honda and Ford.
In the top ten, all brands showed double—digit growth compared to the level of a month ago, and a year-on-year decline. Analysts drew attention to the fact that Volkswagen gained less than others in a month (+9%), and over the year it "sank" the most (-20%). Honda and Lada also stand out: while the Japanese brand shows the best dynamics on a monthly basis (+15.6%), the Russian brand has the smallest decrease on an annual basis (-1.5%).
In total, in the first quarter of 2025, Russians became owners of almost 1.27 million used passenger cars. This is 3.2% more than in the three months of last year. Of the ten brands, only Lada (+11.7%), Chevrolet (+1.5%) and Honda (+1%) have positive dynamics. There are four such models: these are the VAZ sedans "seven", "Priora", "Grant" and the SUV "Niva".
The day before, it was reported that the BMW X5 crossover became the most sought-after used car among premium brands in Russia. BMW also became the most popular brand in the segment, followed by Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Audi and Land Rover (5.6%).
On April 15, it became known that the average price of a used car in the first three months of 2025 in Russia decreased by 2.5% to 1.3 million rubles. At the same time, sales of used cars decreased by 12% during this period.
