- Rosselkhoznadzor reported revenue growth in the agricultural sector of the Russian Federation

For 25 years, Russia has achieved great success in the development of the agricultural sector. The industry's revenue increased by more than 20 times, production by main categories increased by 7.5 times, and the share of imports in the domestic market more than doubled to 10-15%. This was announced to Izvestia on April 17 by Boris Listov, Chairman of the Board of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
"According to our estimates, the annual revenue of the agro—industrial complex has increased by more than 20 times - to 16.6 trillion rubles, including due to the realization of the export potential of our country. We have moved from a major importer of food to the top of the world's leading food exporters. Our farmers not only ensure the country's food security, but also successfully conquer new markets," said Boris Listov, Chairman of the Board of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
He recalled that back in 2000, Russia was dependent on grain imports, while in 2022 it was possible to achieve a record harvest in the country's recent history — almost 158 million tons of grain. Russia has also become the largest exporter of wheat.
In 25 years, the production of vegetable oil increased 7.6 times from 1.37 million tons to 10.4 million tons, and sugar from sugar beet — 4.3 times to 6.9 million tons. Imports of these products have been reduced to a minimum. Also, the production of vegetables increased almost 1.5 times, melons — 3.2 times, to 1.6 million tons.
Meat production increased from 7 million tons in 2000 to a record 16.9 million tons in 2024 (2.4 times). The share of beef imports decreased from 50% to 15%, poultry meat — from 30% to 5%, pork imports — from 40% to less than 1%.
Earlier, on March 12, Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, announced that the government had provided more than 530 billion rubles for financing the agricultural industry and rural development in 2025. He added that since this year, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture has started implementing the national project "Technological food security".
