In the Yaroslavl region, the head of the Gavrilov-Yamsky district and a deputy of the municipality were detained on suspicion of abuse of office. This was announced on April 16 by the press service of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

According to the investigation, in 2023, they created conditions for the victory of controlled enterprises in procurement for construction work at socially significant facilities in the district. The defendants intentionally included impossible requirements in the tender documents, which prevented other applicants from participating. Thus, organizations controlled by officials automatically became winners, and the subsequent conclusion of contracts with them was overestimated in value.

"The illegal actions of the suspects resulted in a significant violation of competition and damage to the budget in the amount of at least 8 million rubles, which were withdrawn to the accounts of controlled legal entities and individuals," the department's Telegram channel said.

A criminal case was opened against the men under paragraphs "d" and "e" of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Abuse of official authority committed by a group of persons by prior agreement out of mercenary or other personal interest").

Earlier, on April 10, it was reported that a criminal case on abuse of office had been opened against the deputy head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Pskov region. The investigation found that the defendant gave his subordinates, inspectors of the traffic police department, an illegal instruction to stop checking the car, which was carrying oversized cargo exceeding the permissible dimensions and did not have the appropriate permission.
