A court in the Amur region sentenced a 29-year-old resident of the Oktyabrsky district, who got behind the wheel while intoxicated, collided with another car and hit a female pedestrian, who later died in hospital. The regional prosecutor's office announced this on Wednesday, April 16.
The accident occurred on November 4, 2024 in the village of Varvarovka. It was established that a drunk 29-year-old local resident got behind the wheel of a newly purchased car, drove to the intersection without slowing down, and began to turn.
"As a result of the maneuver of the culprit, there was a collision with an oncoming car moving along the main road, from which the defendant's car was thrown to the side, where a 64-year-old female pedestrian was hit," the report says.
The pensioner received various injuries and was hospitalized. After some time, her condition worsened, the woman died, writes IA PriamurMedia.
The motorist was found guilty under clauses "a, b" of Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person committed by a person who is intoxicated and does not have the right to drive a vehicle").
The court sentenced him to six years in prison to be served in a general regime colony and banned him from driving for two and a half years. He must also pay 1 million rubles to the victim's representative.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that a court in Vladivostok had sentenced a bus driver who hit a motorcyclist. The injured 19-year-old died in hospital.
