In Blagoveshchensk (Amur region), another victim of fraud was a university student. The girl transferred about 10.5 million rubles to the scammers, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Wednesday, April 16.
The student contacted the police on April 14 and said that at the end of March she received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a university employee. He asked the girl to register on the website of one of the departments to take the test and tell him the code from the SMS message she received to "complete the registration."
After that, she started receiving other calls. The interlocutors assured the girl that fraudsters could steal her money, but the funds could be saved by transferring them to a "secure account," PriamurMedia news agency clarifies.
"Frightened, the girl began to act under the dictation of the intruders. As a result, the victim transferred about 10.5 million rubles to the fraudsters, which were stored in her bank account and belonged to her father," the police said in a statement.
On April 11, it was reported that in St. Petersburg, fraudsters, under the pretext of declaring, extorted more than 10 million rubles from a 94-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War, saying that "almost the KGB" would come to check on him. 4 million rubles, $19 thousand and €51.5 thousand.
