The future new German government, led by the candidate for chancellor of Germany, the leader of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz, will not last long because of his wrongly chosen policy. This was announced on April 16 by British analyst Alexander Mercuris in an interview with The Duran YouTube channel.

"If you look at the polls, you will see that more and more Germans believe that Germany is moving in the wrong direction, they have no confidence that what Merz is doing will work — and they are absolutely right.: It won't work. He is leading Germany in a completely wrong direction <...> And I will make a prediction: I don't think this government will last long either," he believes.

According to Mercuris, the CDU leader is an ambitious, but "not very smart and not competent" person, who is characterized by unscrupulousness. Mercuris recalled that it was Merz who put forward the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU) against the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).

At the same time, the analyst added that there are already concerns within the CDU about the decisions of the future chancellor. Thus, in Saxony and Thuringia, they are calling for the resumption of relations with Russia in the field of gas supplies, but Merz "categorically rejects such a proposal."

Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechaev said that Russia is ready to work with the government and with all legitimate political forces of Germany, which represent German voters. He noted that the proclaimed "change of epochs" in relation to Russia not only failed, but also led Germany into a dead end.

Prior to that, on April 5, the Prime Minister of the German federal state of Thuringia, a member of the CDU party, Mario Vogt, allowed the possibility of resuming Russian gas supplies to Germany. However, according to him, it will be possible to do this only after the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
