U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special representative of the American President Stephen Witkoff will arrive in Paris to discuss a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. This was announced on April 16 on the website of the United States Department of State.

"Rubio and Witkoff will travel to Paris for talks with their European counterparts in order to advance the goal of the President [of the United States Donald] Trump's plan to end the Ukrainian conflict," the press release says.

It is specified that in Paris, US representatives will discuss with European officials ways to promote common interests in the region.

Earlier in the day, Politico newspaper reported that Trump was furious with the European Union (EU) over the union's support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The publication says that Washington's reaction prompted London to exert more pressure on Kiev so that representatives of Ukraine would sit down at the negotiating table in the near future.

On April 14, Trump said he expected "good proposals" to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in the near future. The President added that in the years leading up to the conflict, Washington could have done a lot to prevent a clash in Ukraine.
