The state prosecution has requested 12 years in a high-security penal colony against the former head of the Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin in the case of a large bribe. Vladimir Shelupakhin, a lawyer for the military, told Izvestia about this on April 16.

The defendant's lawyer also confirmed that Shamarin pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from the management of the Perm telephone plant "Telta" in the amount of 36 million rubles.

It is noted that the trial is taking place behind closed doors.

The general was detained on May 22, 2024. According to the investigation, Shamarin received a bribe from the general director and chief accountant of JSC Perm Telephone Plant Telta. The military was dismissed from the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff and head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In August of the same year, he partially admitted his guilt, although the defense insisted that the amount received was not a bribe. At the same time, in July 2024, at a court hearing, it was announced that Shamarin had pleaded guilty and entered into a pre-trial agreement. Nevertheless, despite the defense's position, the general's measure of restraint was not softened and he was kept under arrest.
