The German Foreign Ministry's call not to invite Russian representatives to commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II is absolutely unacceptable. This was stated on April 16 by Niels–Olaf Luders, deputy of the Brandenburg Landtag, head of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) faction.

As the parliamentarian pointed out, such a recommendation indicates "historical amnesia." The politician commented on the situation at an event at the Zelovsky Heights memorial complex in Brandenburg in memory of the fallen Soviet soldiers.

"From a diplomatic point of view, to put it carefully, this is not a very friendly act towards the descendants of the people who are buried here. I consider it completely unacceptable to forbid them to visit the graves of their ancestors," TASS quoted his statement to the DPA news agency.

On the Russian side, the ceremony was attended by Russian Ambassador Sergey Nechaev, representatives of local authorities and public organizations.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 5 that the expulsion of Russia and Belarus from celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II in Germany was a blatant insult.

On April 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that more and more people in various countries of the world see Russia as a guardian and defender of traditional values.
