The ruble remains an undervalued currency and has every chance of continuing to grow. Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at GUU, shared this opinion in an interview with Izvestia on April 16.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian ruble is showing record growth, having strengthened against the US dollar stronger than all world currencies.

"From my point of view, the strengthening of the ruble was quite natural. The ruble is currently the undervalued currency of the world. Especially the leveling of imbalances began to actively occur, given the weakness of some reserve currencies, primarily the US dollar," Chirkov said.

According to the expert, the Russian currency has all the prospects for further strengthening in the long-term trend.

"Citizens, financial organizations or legal entities who kept their savings in Russian rubles, in addition to strengthening the ruble, could also receive profitability either by making deposits at high interest rates or by buying bonds issued in Russia. Given the high interest rates, the real return could be significant," the economist emphasized.

In addition, the expert noted that if funds are available, high rates encourage investments in deposits and bonds.

"If there are available funds, then if high interest rates exist, this money goes into deposits or to purchase corporate and government bonds," Chirkov summed up.

On April 8, the Central Bank of Russia reported that the ruble strengthened in March due to a good trade balance and demand for ruble assets. At the same time, it is noted that due to the geopolitical situation and signals of maintaining tight monetary policy, the Moscow Exchange index showed negative dynamics in March.
